OUR WOMEN’S INITIATIVES PROGRAM AREAS
Grounded in reconnection, relationships and respect, Dene Nahjo’s Recognition of Being Indigenous Women’s Gatherings facilitate the sharing of teachings between Indigenous women and girls of all ages surrounding Indigenous values and skills, rites of passage, spirituality and leadership. These gatherings are meant to build a strong network of support amongst Indigenous girls and women from communities across Denendeh and beyond.
Past Gatherings
May 2019 | Deline, Denendeh
August 2018 | Kakisa, Denendeh
August 2017 | Somba K'e, Denendeh
November 2014 | Somba K'e, Denendeh
The Gathering connected a diverse cross section of current and emerging Indigenous women leaders to explore themes including leadership, arts and culture, decolonization and education. The Gathering was a powerful success, achieving its objectives of linking almost 100 current and emerging Indigenous women leaders from the Northwest Territories, Yukon, Nunavut, and Nunavik, creating momentum for ongoing engagement, provoking dialogue around powerful themes and ideas, and galvanizing Indigenous women in a context of solidarity, progress and meaningful change.
